Wakefield tennis club pays tribute to 'inspiring' Murray

Andy Murray's success in British tennis has encouraged youngsters in Wakefield to take up the sport, according to a local organisation.

The former world number one has announced plans to step down from professional tennis, after struggling with hip injuries.

Adrian Waite, the Lawn and Tennis Association Councillor for Yorkshire, says while Murray will be missed, Kyle Edmund will prove a good role model, too: "Given that Kyle is from Yorkshire, we would like to think now is the time for him to step up...but he has got big shoes to fill!

We are looking to get five players in the top 500 in the next five years, so hopefully there will be a few more to help Kyle keep tennis at the forefront of the public's imagination".
