Travellers could soon have a permanent base

Works underway on finding suitable site

A fixed site - for moving traveller encampments - could soon be created somewhere in the Wakefield district.

It's hoped it would deter travellers from setting up where they shouldn't - which could cut the costs of moving on and cleaning up illegal camps.

The council's yet to decide on where it would go - and is working on finding an appropriate site.

Once one's been found - and planning permission's been submitted - residents will be able to have their say on the proposals.
