Knottingley Swimmers Want Centre Saved

Knottingley swimmers are urging the council to reconsider their proposals for a multi-million pound leisure complex - and to save their centre.

If they get the go ahead, council plans would see current centres in Knottingley and Castleford closed, to make way for a new 15 million pound facility in Pontefract.

Anthony Plum doesn't want the centre to be taken away from his son, who has special needs and swims for the club.

"We've been coming here for a good many years, probably the last ten years," Anthony told Ridings FM.

"He {his son]'s made friends here. It's a social event for him. He does the exercise.

"We don't live too far away, we don't actually live in Knottingley - but we don't live far away, so where are we going to access after that [the closure]?"

A consultation on the Five Towns Leisure Centre plan is taking place until the 9th of November.
