Empty homes targetted in Wakefield district

A change in tax could be on the way

Houses left unoccupied in the Wakefield district could be taxed more heavily under new plans.

Cabinet members are considering whether to increase the Empty Homes Premium.

This currently allows an additional council tax charge of 50 per cent on dwellings left unused for 2 years.

That could be increased by up to 300 per cent depending on the length of time a property is left.
