Wakefield District election results 2019

Wakefield turns blue but Hemsworth and Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford stay red

Former long standing Wakefield Labour MP Mary Creagh is among the night's casualties, coming second to Imran Ahmad Khan.

The Conservative won by a majority of more than three thousand five hundred votes.

Fellow Tory Andrea Jenkyns added to her majority to retain the Morely and Outwood seat.

Labour kept the two other seats in the borough, Jon Trickett held onto Hemsworth and Yvette Cooper will continue to represent Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford.

She's says the national defeat for Labour "wasn't just about Brexit, it was also about the perceptions of the Labour Party and perceptions of the leadership."
