Coronavirus: Wakefield Council Leader calls for school reopening date to be reconsidered

The government is being urged to step away from the date it's given to reopen schools in Wakefield.

The Government announced plans last week for the phased reopening of primary schools from the 1st of June.

Wakefield Council Leader, Denise Jeffery, is voicing concerns, and says the safety of children, their families, teachers and staff has to be - and will be - top priority.

She believes classrooms need more time to prepare and says the council is working with headteachers to support them to reopen when the time is right.
