UPDATE: Huge fire breaks out at Freeston Academy while students pick up their GCSEs

West Yorkshire Fire Service say students can still pick up their results from the car park.

Students at a Normanton school have been collecting their GCSE results in a car park, after their school burst into flames this morning.

Nervous teenagers arrived to get their exam results but instead found Freeston Academy on fire.

West Yorkshire Fire service say the blaze is now under control - but an annex used as IT classrooms and a study area is destroyed.

Megan's just about to start her GCSEs there. She's told Ridings FM she's worried it won't be ready to open again in September...

"Obviously it's devastating because I'll be starting GCSEs, so we're missing out on valuable school time, possibly. Most people will probably be happy because it means an extra couple of weeks off, but it's quite a lot of pressure when you've got to catch up on work you've missed out on."

It comes as it's been announced that almost 7 in 10 GCSEs sat this summer are passes.
