Saturday, September 14th
Working for Walton are delighted to announce their Scarecrow Festival for 2019.
Returning for its 4th year this ever popular competition is to be held on the week end of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of September; a fun filled family event for all the community and an eagerly anticipated village celebration.
The festival invites residents of Walton to manufacture and display a whimsical scarecrow or scarecrows on their properties in a place where they can be easily observed from the road side.
There is no general theme to the designs so imaginations run riot to create a varied and entertaining selection of scarecrows throughout the village – More than 80 in 2018!
Over the period of the weekend, visitors attend and view these scarecrows and vote for their favourite ones.
The votes are counted during the afternoon of the Sunday and four winners (one from each quarter of the village) is announced towards the end of that afternoon.
During the weekend the centre of operations is the Village Hall, School Lane, Walton which becomes “Scarecrow H.Q” where there are stalls selling hot food and drinks, refreshments and gifts along with a licensed bar.
This is also where, for the modest price of £3.00, you purchase the official Scarecrow maps showing the locations of all the scarecrow entrants around the village, with this map are the voting slips for the favourite scarecrows.
Voting slips are returned to Scarecrow HQ before 4.00pm on Sunday 15th
The village hall is open from 11.00AM until 4.00PM on Saturday; and 10.00AM until prize giving at 5.00PM on Sunday.
Come along and join in the fun.
