The people of the district have been commended for their community spirit during the Olympic torch relay.

Torchbearers traveled 22 miles around the area yesterday, carrying the flame across Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract and Ackworth.

85 thousand people took time out to catch a glimpse of the torch.
