Extended GP hours reduces A and E pressures across Wakefield district

Wakefield's extended GP hours are helping to reduce the strain on A and E units - and have made over twenty three thousand additional appointments during the first year of the service.

'GP Care Wakefield' gives patients across the District access to medical support in the evening and at weekends. They phone their own practice, get advice from a nursing team - and are booked in to see a doctor that day if necessary.

Assistant Chair of the CCG - Dr Adam Shepherd - says it means over fourteen thousand people have been able to speak to medical professionals during the extended hours.
